A relentless cough and stabbing pain in the abdomen
These were the symptoms of my eldest. The fall of 2022 brought with it a nasty strain
of bacteria and virus’ unlike I have ever seen. This is not surprising after the last 2
years of social distancing, masking and inconsistent in-person schooling.
So after a bout of illness he was perfectly well except for this nagging cough that
wouldn’t go away and was annoying to all of us. There was a tickling in his throat
which caused him to cough, and cough, and cough. It wasn’t constant but when it
happened it was LOUD! Then his stomach started to hurt. It was a “stabbing pain” he
said and it only happened when he coughed. I did a simple appendix test that I
learned from my chiropractor and quickly ruled out any issues there. He just said it hurt
when he coughed, it was a “stabbing pain” that came and went only with the cough.
“Do you feel anything else besides the stabbing? Any burning?” Now normally I
wouldn’t lead my clients in their answers but my son is pretty good at describing how
he feels, after all, he’s been doing it since he was able to talk!
I had been giving him Antimonium tart 30c for his cough which had worked in the past
but this cough was dry, no rattling in the chest and was instigated by a “tickle” in the
throat. I had given Nux vomica 30c, a go for the stomach pain but there was no
marked improvement. He went to bed with the same symptoms he woke up with.
“Cough, cough... owww.... Mom, can you get me a remedy?”
“Yes, hun, I just need to look in my books.”
“Ok...cough, cough, cough... owwww...!”
After a bit of reading, I decided on Bryonia 30c. A beautiful remedy for dry coughs with
accompanying abdominal pain. He would also clutch his chest when he coughed,
another indicator. I asked if he felt better moving around or being still. Being still.
Another keynote of Byronia, they are worse from movement. I gave him four pills.
I’m sitting here at the kitchen table listening. I hear nothing. He’s asleep, no more
coughing, no more pain. I love this gentle, healing medicine. Now it doesn’t always
work this quickly and it often takes more than one dose of a remedy. But this evening
one dose was all it took. I’m hopeful that there will be no more coughing in the
morning, but if there is I know which remedy to start with.
In the words of the great Dr. James Compton Burnett in response to an allopathic
skeptic: “ What you and the world in general may think of it [Homeopathy] I care not
one straw: I speak well of the bridge that carried me over (Byronia cured his pleurisy).
For my part, I make but one demand of medicine, and one only, that it shall cure!”
There is another way my friends.
